Thank you, Dylan.

Those are definitely not new concepts, but I still feel there is a degree of misunderstanding around them.

It also helps me clarify the concepts in my head as well -- what it is really that we are measuring.

I've read a couple of books, and Ian Graham's How to Win the Premier League has been my favourite so far. But I don’t think they’ve gone into enough detail when it comes to interpreting the metrics, like you have here and with xGOT, which I believe is the most important part.

Probably the best football book I've read. Absolutely loved it.

I think it was also intended for the wider (non-technical) football audience, so that's why you might feel it could have covered more ground.

Ah, this is really good. I'd been confused about the two, especially with data from Fbref. Read your last posts and now this one's, and I understand the differences now. Thanks.

Prefer the mix.

The thing is I kind of confused the two.

And I wasn’t wrong.

I mean understat named xA what Opta (fbref) calls xAG. 😅

I’m saving each post to comeback to it and refresh my knowledge on these metrics.

This is literally why I started these. To serve as quick reminders.

In the beginning I wanted to do practical projects, but as I was preparing them I thought, ‘Wait a minute—wouldn’t a beginner first want to know exactly what the xG suite measures before using them into projects?’

So I kind of went down the rabbit hole of metrics. 🙂
